The Wheels of Chance

Thomas Hoopdriver is a simple store clerk caught in the grip of the latest craze – bicycling. During his ten-day holiday around the southern coast of England, he meets and rescues Jessie Milton, a young heiress running away from an arranged marriage. To gain her trust, Mr. Hoopdriver pretends to be a gentleman farmer from Australia.

Will Jessie find out who he really is before he can rescue her, and if she does, what will she do? Once the couple’s whereabouts are discovered by her desperate Stepmother, the ensuing chase on the road to Brighton leads to adventure and romance.

Based on the novel by H.G. Wells, The Wheels of Chance is a Music Hall celebration of a world turned upside down by the simplest and most egalitarian invention in the history of mankind, the bicycle.
